Why PCOS Was Never About Your Ovaries - and Other Health Lies You've Been Told | NEW EPISODE from The Forties Formula

You have probably heard of PCOS.

You may have been told you have it, or told you don't.

Either way, there is a very good chance you have been given an incomplete picture — because the condition itself has been misnamed, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood for decades.

Here is what most doctors still aren't telling you: the cysts were never the point.

Dr. Sital Khistriya is a women's health physician who walked us through one of the most significant rebrands in women's health in years: PCOS is being renamed PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — and the shift matters.

The cysts that gave the condition its name aren't even cysts (WTF, right?). They are follicles that arrested in development as a downstream consequence of insulin resistance. The ovaries were just where the problem showed up...last.

Dr. Sital also said that PMOS can present completely differently depending on your ethnicity. South Asian women carry insulin resistance at a much lower BMI. East Asian women get missed because they don't fit any of the textbook descriptions. Black women may present with high blood pressure as their most visible symptom.

So if your doctor has ever looked at you and said "you don't look like someone with PCOS," this is why.

One thing worth trying this weekend

Dr. Sital's single most actionable piece of advice — and one that costs nothing — is to look at your neck.

Specifically, the folds of your neck and your armpits. A darkening of the skin in these areas, called acanthosis nigricans, is one of the most reliable visual markers of insulin resistance, particularly in South Asian and Black women.

It is too often dismissed as a hygiene issue — Dr. Sital mentioned clients whose relatives told them they simply weren't scrubbing hard enough — when it is actually your body flagging a metabolic problem that deserves further investigation.

If you have it, it is not a cosmetic concern. It is information.

Take that info to your GP and ask for a full metabolic workup, including fasting insulin and HbA1c. You can find the exact words to use in our free GP script, if you need help asking.

With a little more metabolic awareness and a lot less guesswork,

If you are going to supplement, the quality of what you take matters as much as the intention behind it. For Youth is the longevity nutrition brand we have personally been using for months, and the reason is simple: they make the basics well.

That's why we asked them to create The Forties Formula System, a collagen renewal and antioxidant power combo of ultra-absorbable nano collagen peptides and Setria® Glutathione and PureBKale™ Glucoraphanin just for our community. It combines everything your skin needs to stay resilient through the hormonal changes of this decade, and you get a free bottle of The Unwind, that magnesium L-threonate we've been raving about on-air (to help you sleep!).

We would not be talking about them if we weren't already using them. Use code TFF35 at checkout for up to 35% off sitewide.
