Is Ozempic Cheating? We're Here to Make the Call. | NEW EPISODE from The Forties Formula

What's happening with us

We have just spent an epic five days recording a special London series for The Forties Formula. If you're following us on Instagram, hopefully you caught a glimpse of our shenanigans.

Amanda has safely landed back in Singapore (to many hugs and kisses from her three littles) and Jasmin is staying on in London another three weeks with her fam.

Our typical London mornings started with egg pots at Farmer J's - a genuine obsession. and one we wish would come back to Singapore with us! Jasmin was unadventurous in grabbing her flat white every time, while Amanda went full on science experiment at nearby Black Sheep Coffee, working her way through a collagen latte, prebiotics latte, and even a Lion's Mane adaptogen latte. The verdict is still out...

We squeezed in a couple of sessions at GymBox using our ClassPass (did you know you can do that around the world?). The place is enormous, so enormous that we actually lost each other mid session and had to panic-text our way back to one another. If you're ever in London and fancy a proper session, it's worth the visit - just bring your phone.

But the real story of the trip was Podcast House. We recorded thirteen episodes in four days, which even typing out sounds mildly unhinged. Two mishaps along the way: one guest thought it was a remote session and wasn't in the room, and another lost her voice entirely and had to cancel on us last minute. The Podcast House team were brilliant through both, helping us pivot on the spot and keeping our stress levels in check. Genuinely could not have got through the week without them - big love.

What's making headlines

One in three women are unsure if they're even in perimenopause.

A new Menopause Society study found that a third of US women aged 35 and over don't know whether they're in perimenopause, with that uncertainty peaking at 42% among 40 to 44 year olds. The number one reason women gave was simple confusion about what's actually a perimenopause symptom and what isn't.

Our take: this tracks with everything we hear from you. Dr. Tash Mirando walked us through more than seventy (!) possible symptoms back in podcast season one, and no two women experience the same combination. Aimee Spector's team surveyed 15,000 women across the UK and found that 86% experienced brain fog as part of their perimenopause symptoms. She'll be sharing more on this with us in an upcoming episode this winter, so watch this space.

Perimenopause is taking a bigger toll than menopause itself.

Bonafide Health's latest State of Menopause survey found that women in perimenopause are being hit harder than those in menopause, not just by hot flushes, but by anxiety, brain fog, sleep disruption and a dip in motivation that's spilling into work, relationships and money.

Our take: it's the emotional and cognitive symptoms that catch people off guard, not the physical ones everyone expects. Struggling to find a word you use every day, mid meeting, is exhausting in a way nobody warns you about.

While we were away

Our reel with Yana Fry from the relationship episode is doing the rounds in the manosphere and the comments are something else - in fact, we had to block our first troll this week (one for the baby book). We won't say more, just go and check 'em out.

This week's episode

We sat down with Dr Christle Guevarra to talk GLP-1s, and honestly, it might be one of the most personal conversations we've had on the show. Christle spent most of her life managing hunger that never seemed to switch off, despite doing everything "right": tracking food to the gram, strength training since 2009, eating a genuinely well balanced diet. She started her GLP-1 journey four years ago after two years of hesitation, much of it tied to ego and comparison within the fitness world she worked in.

Within two weeks, she described the change as her brain going quiet for the first time in her life. Jasmin opened up too, nearly a year into her own GLP-1 journey now. As a nutritionist, telling clients to sort out their protein and training, she talked honestly about the guilt that can creep in when you're on the same medication you're not always upfront about with your own clients.

One thing to try today

Forget counting macros for a moment.

Christle's simplest tool, and the one she says moves the needle for nine out of ten patients, is this: protein and a vegetable or fruit on every plate, every meal. No numbers, no tracking. Just P and P (protein & plants). Try it for a day and see what shifts.

Hey, wanna come see us in person?

On 3 September, we are bringing The Forties Formula into Atelier V&A — one of Singapore's most beautiful design spaces — for a live recorded evening with guests Aisha Hillary-Morgan and Venetia Gu.

The conversation is about the spaces, objects, and aesthetics around us, and how they shape who we are in our forties. There will be welcome bubbles, a grazing platter, and a goodie bag you'll gasp at. The dress code is whatever makes you feel amazing.

Seats are strictly capped at 25. Tickets and full details are here.
